The head of the Chinese travel agency Liao Gaoming was sentenced to 10 years of labor camps for fraud. The investigation found a discrepancy between the actual services claimed. It is noted that the tour operator had to carry excursion groups to the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, and instead, tourists found themselves in Chelyabinsk.
A professional guide, fluent in Russian, Chinese and English, informed the guests of the Ural megalopolis that today Chernobyl and the neighboring town of Pripyat, played by Kopeisk, were able to eliminate some of the consequences of the 1986 nuclear disaster. According to him, these settlements have acquired unique recreational opportunities that allow them to function again. However, it was not possible to completely eliminate the consequences, therefore the radiation background in a number of places in Chelyabinsk was comparable to Ukrainian cities, as evidenced by the Geiger counters. This fact convinced everyone of the reality of the trip to Chernobyl.
“If we take the radiation background of Chelyabinsk, then in places it looks like Pripyat, so there is nothing surprising in the fact that our city was given out for Chernobyl,” said the Ural ecologist Yevgeny Khrushch.
The head of the Ministry of Energy of China La Mingdun, who bought a tourist ticket for himself and his family in Chernobyl places, helped to discover the fraud. The official himself was already in the 80s in Chernobyl and Pripyat and easily figured out the scam.
After the incident in China, an increase in interest in tourist trips to Chelyabinsk was noted. According to tour operators, such a trip is easier and cheaper to organize, and in some places the capital of the South Ural itself resembles a legendary city with nuclear power plants.
