The first opinion poll in the history of the state was held in South Sudan. During the survey, respondents were asked to answer a few questions about the state structure.
The overwhelming majority (72%) of citizens did not know that they were citizens of South Sudan. Some respondents assumed that they were in Sudan, the other half found it difficult to answer the question about their geographic location.
The Sudanese did not show a high level of awareness in the political structure of the country. So, 15 percent of respondents were able to correctly name the president.
The sovereign status of Southern Sudan came into force on July 9, 2011, after the signing of the declaration of its declaration as an independent state.
